Parts of Speech

In traditional grammar, a part of speech is a category of words that have similar grammatical properties. Words that are assigned to the same part of speech generally display similar syntactic behavior. So, parts of speech are the basic types of words that English has. There are eight Parts of Speech commonly listed in English. These are:

     1)   Noun

     2)   Pronoun

     3)   Verb

     4)   Adjective

     5)   Adverb

     6)   Preposition

     7)   Interjection

     8)   Conjunction

In subsequent posts we will deal with these eight parts of speech.
