Common Noun and Proper Noun
Common Noun-
A common noun is the name given in common to any
person, place or thing of the same class or kind.
Examples:
1) A
girl
is skipping the rope.
2) Dog
is a faithful animal.
3) He
wishes to work for the country.
Proper Noun-
A proper noun is the name of a particular person,
place or thing. In written English, proper nouns begin with letters.
Examples-
1) Jaipur
is the capital of Rajasthan.
2) Mt. Everest is
in Nepal.
3) Pooja
is my best friend.
4) I
am going to London next week.
Concrete Noun and Abstract
Noun
Concrete Noun-
A concrete noun refers to the name of a person, place
or thing that can be perceived by one or more of the senses.
Example-
1) I
need to paste a photograph of my family in my Hindi book.
2) The
carpenter made a chair.
Abstract Noun-
An abstract noun refers to ideas, feelings, qualities,
characteristics and conditions that cannot be seen or touched and things which
have no physical reality.
Example-
1) Honesty
is the greatest virtue.
2) Kindness
is always rewarded.
3) Beauty
lies in the eyes of beholder.
4) Being
with friends is always fun.
5) They
fought for freedom.
Countable Noun and
Uncountable Noun
Nouns can either be countable or
uncountable.
Countable Noun -
Countable nouns refer to something
that can be counted. They have both singular and plural forms.
For example- dog/dogs, man/men,
mountain/mountains
Uncountable Noun
Uncountable nouns do not typically
refer to things that can be counted. They do not regularly have a plural form.
For example- chocolate, ketchup, tea,
water
Material Noun-
A material Noun is the name of matter or substance
of which things are made.
Example-
1) Mom
gifted me a gold bracelet.
2) The
main gate of my house is made up of iron.
3) I
prefer the chair of wood over plastic.
4) Brass
is useful metal.
Collective Noun-
A collective noun is the name given to a group of
persons or things considered as one.
Examples:
1) herd
of animals
2) army
of soldiers
3) swarm
of bees
4) murder
of crows
5) bunch
of flowers
Collective nouns usually take a singular verb, because
they are singular in construction, but they sometimes take a plural verb.
