Glossary

 

Cunning - clever and skillful चालाक 

Dense - containing a lot of people, things, plants etc. with little space between them  सघन

in a hurry - very quickly, more quickly than usual जल्दी में

Afraid of - worried or frightened that something dangerous will happen to a particular person or thing  डरा हुआ

Promise - to tell somebody that you will definitely do or not do something वचन /  वादा

Greedly - with a strong desire for more wealth, possessions, power etc, than a person needs लालच से

Stretch - to make something longer, wider or looser खींचाव

Shock - an unpleasant feeling as a result something bad happening झटका/ आघात

Indeed - used to emphasize a positive statement or answer वास्तव में

Urge- to advise to try hard to persuade something to do प्रेरणा/  आग्रह

Amazing- very surprising अद्भुत/  आश्चर्यजनक

Across - from one side to the other side आर- पार

Insist - to say firmly that something is true especially when other people do not believe you  दृढ़ता से कहना/ आग्रह करना

Trick - to deceive somebody  छल

Clang - sound originated on closing the door दरवाजा बजने की आवाज

Relieve - to remove or reduce an unpleasant feeling or pain सहायता देना /  राहत देना

Pat - to touch somebody or something gently several times थपथपाना

Once Raju, Monu and two rats lived in a house. One day Raju was in a hurry. “What happened,” asked Monu. “Come on to the house nearby,” said Raju.

“But why”? Asked Monu. “Because I am afraid of the fat cat that I saw today in this house,” said Raju.

Ans- A young man was called by the lion.

 

Q.2  What did the Lion want? 

Ans- The Lion wanted the man to set him free.

 

Q.3 What was the young man afraid of?

Ans- Young man was afraid that if he did so, the lion would kill him.

 

Q.4 What did the lion promise to the young man?

Ans- The lion promised the young man that he will not kill him. 

 

Q.5 How did the old man solve the problem?

Ans- The old man solved the problem by tricking the Lion back into the cage.

Q.6 What was the old man's advice to the young man?

Ans- The old man's advice to the young man was to help only those who deserve.

Grammar in use

a)  Read the following

     (i)  The lion was very big.

     (ii)  He could not go into the cage.

 We combine these two sentences into one sentence. 

 

The lion was too big to go into the cage. 

 

Now combine the following pairs of sentences as shown above.
