Artist vs Artiste vs Artisan

Artist

An Artist refers to a person who produces works in any of the arts subject to aesthetic criteria. 

An artist could be a person practicing fine arts like a painter or sculptor as a job or as a hobby. An artist may also be a performer like a musician, dancer or an actor. 

Example-
Reema is an artist with cards.
He is an exceptional footballer- an artist
Rabindranath Tagore was an exceptional artist.

Artiste

(The word ‘artiste ‘is pronounced with a longer ee sound in the middle.)

An Artiste is a professional entertainer, especially a singer, a dancer, an acrobat or other public performer. An artiste is a person with artistic pretensions.

Example-
You don't have to be a master artiste; all you need is a little imagination.
There were fifty artistes in the opera company.

Artisan

An Artisan refers to a person skilled in an applied art; a crafts person like a carpenter.

Example-
The artisans put their heart and soul in the making of The Taj Mahal.
