Read the following group of words:
o
on the table
o
in the corner
o
full of roses
o
a beautiful dress
o
morning walk
o
bright morning
o
land animal
o
on the way
Each one of the above groups of words gives a vague
indication but does not make complete sense. It requires something else to make
complete sense.
A phrase is a group of words that stands together as a single
grammatical unit but does not convey a complete thought.

Phrases have been classified into various types. We
will deal with them in another post.
Exercise
Write (p) for phrase and (s) for
sentences against each group of words.
