Principal
and principle are another set of homophones, which, despite sounding identical
in their pronunciation, have completely different meanings. Writers occasionally confuse the words
principal and principle.
Principal
Principal as an adjective-
Principal
is most commonly used as an adjective. It
means “main” or “chief”.
Examples-
1) The
principal objective of this NGO is to serve the poor.
2) My
principal concern is the distance that one has to travel to reach the clinic.
Principal as a noun-
The
word principal is also used as noun. It means “head master of school” or
“ a person who’s in charge of certain things in a company”
Examples-

principal is in meeting with office staff.

Sharma is the principal of Govt. Primary School.
👉 It has an additional meaning in finance.
In
the context of borrowing, principal refers to the initial size of a loan.
The amount of interest one pays on a loan is
determined by the principal sum.
Principle
The
word principle is always used as a noun. It has a range of meanings- “ a fundamental doctrine or tenet” or “a
scientific rule or law”. Principle is also with a moral meaning of “
distinction between right and wrong” or “rules of right conduct”.
