Accept

Accept is a verb. The verb is followed by an object noun phrase or gerund.  It has several meanings.

To hold something as true
      ·        He accepted what I said.

To answer yes (especially to an invitation)
      ·        The principal has accepted my invitation.

To receive something willingly
      ·        They don’t accept cash.

Except

The word except is most commonly seen as a preposition. However, it can also be used very occasionally as a verb.

As a preposition

Except as a preposition means apart from, not including, or excluding.

👉 as a preposition, except is followed by a noun or another preposition.

Example-

·        Drive on the right side of the road except if you need to pass another card.

·        The supermarket is open daily except on holidays.

·        I can resist everything except temptation.

·        It’s easy to get these except on foot.

·        Everyone wanted to walk to the concert except for few people.

As a conjunction

Except as a conjunction means ‘but’ or ‘if not the fact that’

Example-

      ·        I would go swimming, except I am scared deeper side.

      ·        I would love to read story, except it is too length.

As a verb

As a verb it means “not include” or “leave out”. It is followed by an object noun.

Example-

     ·        They excepted television on the back of the 40% off coupon. (Televisions weren’t included)

     ·        The sale coupon listed the excepted items.
