Jantar Mantar

Jantar Mantar is a name given to ancient observatories. The name comes from two words: Jantar or yantra, which means instrument. Observatories built at Jaipur and Delhi are the most famous. Both were built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, a Rajput King. They have instruments such as large sundials, structures that helped to measure the position of stars and planets, and tools to find out the duration of days at different times of the year.

Konark

The Sun temple is also called Konark which means ‘Sun’s Corner’. It was built in the 13th Century on the Puri beach, in Orissa and is a prominent landmark for sailors at the sea. It is carved out of stone. The entire temple is built in the shape of the Sun God’s chariot with twelve wheels. It’s carving shows the Sun god Surya with seven leaping and prancing horses drawing the chariot.

Meenakshi Temple

The Meenakshi Temple is a twin temple – one dedicated to Shiva  and other to goddess Parvati (Meenaksh).
The temple complex has a large hall with 985 pillars, also called the ‘Hall of Pillars’. The complex has eleven gateways that are so high that they can be seen from several kilometers away. The gateways too have detailed carving and painted with bright colours.
