Tansen was born in Gwalior as a son of Mukund Misra. As a child, he was
naughty but extremely talented too. Swami Haridas accepted him as his disciple
at the age of ten. He married Hussaini who was Rani Mrignayani’s courtier. The
magical musician, was one of the ‘Navratna’ (nine gems) at the court of the
Mughal Emperor Akbar. He not only mastered many ragas including Raga Deepak and
Raga Megha but also discovered many new ragas. He died in 1585. His immortal
memories are preserved in his tomb in Gwalior. This place is visited by many
singers, musicians and music lovers from all over the country.
