Section A
Read the passage and answer the questions.

A timeline is a tool that we can use to help us understand history. It can tell us what happened at different times. It can tell how much time there was between two events. It can give us a picture of dates in our minds. That helps us see how they all fit together.

Timelines aren’t only for old events. People still use them today. They help us keep track of important dates in our lives.  You can even make a timeline for yourself.

A timeline looks a lot like a number line when you begin. Draw a straight line across the page. Make little marks for the important events in your life. Your timeline may begin with your birth, including things like the first time you want, and when you started school. It might show the year that you were in each grade. The year goes on one side of each mark. The event goes on the other side. Here is a simple timeline.

Q. What is a timeline?
Ans- A timeline is a tool that we can use to help us understand history.

Q. How does it help us to understand history?
Ans- It helps us understand history by telling the time between two events and giving the picture of dates in our mind.

Q. Why do people use timelines even if they are not studying history?
Ans- People use the timeline to keep track of important dates in their lives, even if they are not studying history.

Q. Which event should be on your timeline?
Ans- Following events should be on my timeline:
           Birth,  walked,  preschool,  Kindergarten,  1st grade,  2nd Grade

Q. What is on a timeline besides the events?
Ans- Besides the events, timeline shows the years marked on it.


The following are mixed but happen in a sequence (order).  Number is set in the order in which they occur.


 
Section B

Some events from the story of Red Riding Hood are listed below. Arrange them in order from first to last by numbering the events from 1 to 6 in the order in which they occur.

  1. A woodcutter comes to save her and remove her grandma from the wolf’s stomach.
  2. Little Red Riding Hood puts on her red cloak and sets off to meet her grandmother.
  3. A wolf stops her on the way and asks her where she is going.
  4. When she arrives she sees big teeth and shouts for help.
  5. He gobbles up her grandmother, dresses like grandma and waits for Red Riding Hood.
  6. He tricks her into picking flowers while he goes to her grandmother’s house.
Ans-

Little Red Riding Hood has grown up and is now 15 years old. She has learnt a lesson after her visit to her granny’s house and is no longer afraid to travel alone. She will be visiting her aunt in a nearby town soon.
Unfortunately, the bus schedule she has is all muddled up due to a bad printing job. She has to first organised the buses in sequence according to their time of arrival. Then she will know which one is convenient for her to take. Can you help her?

The buses in sequence as they arrived in the morning.
1.   The first bus to arrive is number 32 at 7:15 a.m.
2.   A little over 2 hours later comes along bus number 57 at 9:30 a.m.
3.   Then comes bus number 16 at 11 a.m.
4.   Around lunch, there is a bus at 1 o’clock. That's bus number 21.
5.   The last bus, which is bus number 68 comes at 4:30 p.m.

Timeline Showing History of Transportation

Read the information on the important personality you have.

On the basis of what you will read about Walt Disney, identify any five events related to his life and Plot am on the timeline.

Walt Disney

Walt Disney was the creator of “Mickey Mouse”, founder of “Disneyland” and “Walt Disney World”.  he was born in Chicago, on December 5, 1901.

Walt was always interested in drawing. He sold his sketches when he was only 7 years old.  In 1918, Disney joined the Red Cross where he spent a year driving an ambulance. He covered his ambulance with drawings and cartoons.

Walt began his career as an advertising cartoonist in 1920. In August 1923, Walt Disney left for Hollywood with nothing but a few drawing materials. Walt and his brother, Roy together started making animation films.

Walt directed an animation film called “Steamboat Willie” and created Mickey Mouse in 1928. In 1932, the film “flowers and trees”  won Walt his first Academy Award. In 1937 “Snow White and Seven Dwarfs” was released. In the next 5 years, Walt completed “ Pinocchio”,  “Fantasia”, “Dumbo”  and  “Bambi”.  He won 36 awards in total.

Disneyland was launched in 1955 and since then it has entertained more than 650 million people including president, kings, queens and royalty.

Q. Why do you think it is the most useful?  Give reasons.
Ans- The diesel engine was the most useful invention because it changed the world.  it brought revolution in the world of locomotives from trains to ships and cars.  The diesel engine also changed the face of industries as well as agriculture.

Ans-  StarStruck has 30 days and 5 subjects to prepare. He can allot 6 days to each of the five subjects.

Think of important events in your life such as the day you were born, the day you learnt to stand without support, the time of your first worked, your first day at school, the day you learnt to swim for cycle, etc.
Gather photographs of yourself when these events happened or at different ages.
Arrange them in order from first to last and prepare a photo timeline of yourself on a chart paper.
Don't forget to write your age near each photograph.

Ans- A timeline is a graphics tool which makes it easy to see the order in which events occurred.

Ans- Timelines are important because
1- They simplify a text and help us to remember it.
2- They help us understand the chronology of events.
3- It shows how an event may have led to another.
