Q. Why is a bird's body shaped like a boat?
Ans- A bird’s body is shaped like a boat (streamlined shape) to help it fly in the air.
Q. How do the hollow bones help the bird?
Ans- Hollow bones make the body of bird light and it is good for flying.

Q. Write one point of difference between:

Beak of a hummingbird and that of an eagle.
Beak of hummingbird
Beak of an eagle
Beak of humming bird is long and needle-like.
Beak of an eagle is sharp and hook-shaped.
Humming bird uses beak to suck the nectar.
Eagle uses its beak to tear flesh.

Down feather are soft and fluffy.
Flight feather are long feathers found on wings and tails.
Down feathers help to keep the body warm.
Flight feathers help the bird to fly.

Ans- Hunting animals for shear pleasure is not correct as they have life and they are beautiful creations of nature.

Q. Water birds have webbed toes.
Ans- The webbed feet help water birds to paddle through the water more efficiently
Webbed feet are useful on land as well as on water because they allow birds to walk more easily on mud.

Q. A Woodpecker has a sharp pointed beak.
Ans- A woodpecker has a sharp pointed beak to help it pull out insects by making holes in tree trunks.

Ans-
Cracking Beak
Sipping Beak
Crackin beak is short and curved. It is used to crack open nuts and seeds. For example- Parrot, Sparrow and Pigeon.
Sipping beak is long and needle-like. It is used to probe into flowers to suck the necter. For example – Humming bird


Straining Beak
Drilling Beak
Straining beak is flat with holes at the side for the water to flow out. For eample- Duck and Swan
Drilling beak is sharp and pointed to make hole in the tree trunks to pull out insects. For eample- Wood pecker and Hornbill
