Let’s do an experiment!
  1. Fill a beaker about three-quarters with water.
  2. Add drops of food colour till the colour of water turns dark (at least five drops). Stir until the colour is even.
  3. Cut about 2.5 cm off the bottom of a white rose stalk with the knife and place it in the beaker with the leaves sticking up.
Let the rose stalk sit overnight in the coloured water. Now write your observations based on it.

  1. What did you observe the next day?
       Ans- The observed that the white rose became coloured.

2.       Your teacher will cut some portion of the rose stalk. Draw and label what you observe in the space provided below.

Q. Forests are being cut to build townships. Write your views on this.
Forests purify air and bring rain. Cutting of forests cause climate change.

Ans- Seed germinates and gives rise to the new plant.

Give reasons for your choice.
Roots fix the plant to the ground and absorb water from soil. Leaves make food using the same water. Therefore, both are important.

Do it yourself

 Take a leaf of your choice (preferably is smaller, in size than the box given below).  Put it under a paper and softly rub your pencil over it. The wheels and leaf edges will appear on the paper.
