Ans- General Lefferts bought Edison’s invention in 40,000 dollars. Thus he got the money he needed for starting a laboratory.

Q6.    What is a talking machine? What is a talkie?
Ans- A talking mahine is a gramophone and talkie is a talking picture.

Q7.    Why did the Americans turn off their lights for a while when Edison died?
Ans- Americans turned off their lights for a while when Edison died as a mark of respect for him.

Write a paragraph on:

(1)          Electric bulb
Electric bulb was edison’s most important and useful invention. Edison worked for nearly two years to invent the first electric bulb. He spent about 40,000 dollars to find out the best material for making the filament. he tried many kinds of materials for the filament. At last , in 1879 he was able to produce the first electric bulb.

(2)          Gramophone
In 1877, Edison invented a talking machine. He called it phonograph. the phonograph was the first device for recording and replaying sound. The sound quality on phonograph was bad and each recording lasted for only one play. Later Alexander Graham Bell made improved gramophone which could be played many times.
