Q1.    What was the problem that the courtiers of Akbar were not able to solve?
Ans- The courtiers of Akbar were not able to make the line shorter.

Q2.    How did Birbal solve the problem?
Ans- Akbar solved the problem by drawing a second line shorter than the first line.

Q3.    Why did Akbar put Birbal in prison?
Ans- Akbar put Birbal in prison because he was absent from the court without prior information.

Q4.    On what condition did Akbar say that he would set Birbal free?
Ans- Akbar said that he would set Birbal free on bringing a horse which is neither black nor brown, neither grey nor white in colour.

Q5.    How did Birbal outwit the Emperor?
Ans- Birbal outwitted Emperor by asking him to send a men to fetch the horse on any day other than Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday.

·   Akbar was the great emperor of the Mughal Dynasty.
·   His full name was Jalaluddin Akbar.

·   Nine eminent courtiers of Akbar’s court were known as navratnas.
·   Akbar took a great interest in art, culture and religion.

   Birbal
  • Birbal was born in 1528 in the village Ghoghra in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh.
  • He was a poet and author whose wit and wisdom led the emperor Akbar to invite him to be a part of roal court.
  • Birbal was a part of Akbar’s inner council of nine advisors, known as navratnas.
  • Birbal was very sharp and prompt. He used to enjoy emperor’s favour.
  • Akbar was impressed by his intelligence. Birbal was the most trusted advisor of Akbar.
