Collect the information about the Desert Oak and write:

Desert Oak are attractive medium-sized, slow growing trees. They have narrow needle like leaves. They are found in dry deserts of Australia. Their height is almost equal to height of our classroom. Their roots grow deep into the soil till they reach water (30 times the height of tree). Water is stored in the tree trunk. When there is no water in the desert, the local people put a thin pipe into the trunk of the tree, to drink this water.

       1-    What was Abdul doing in his garden?
       Ans- Abdul was helping his Abbu by clearing dried leaves and grass from vegetable beds in the garden.

       2-    Why was it difficult to pull out the roots of grass?
       Ans-

It was difficult to pull out the roots of grass plant are longer, strong and much more spread out than the part of plant above the ground.

       3-    Give the names of some edible roots?
       Ans- Examples of edible roots are as follows:
          (a)  Beet
          (b)  Radish
          (c)  Carrot
          (d)  Sweet potato
          (e)  Yam
          (f)   Lotus root

       4-    How do different parts of plants get water?
Ans- 

Plants get the water they need from the soil, in which they grow. The movement of water takes place in the xylem, vein-like tubes that run from the roots of plants to leaves and other parts.
      
       5-    What is law against cutting trees?
       Ans- According to Indian Forest Act, one has to take clearance from District Forest Officer before cutting down a tree or its branches. The penalty for cutting down a tree is Rs. 10,000 or 3 months imprisonment.
      As per Environment Authority Act, every tree must be transplanted and in case they cannot be transmigrated, 5 new saplings must be planted.

       7-    Write about the root system of banyan trees?
       Ans- Banyan tree has two types of roots:
        
      (1)  Underground Roots-  
These roots are under the ground just like other trees.
      (2)  Aerial Roots- 
These roots start in branches and grow down towards the ground. These roots not only take water and nutrition from soil, but they also help to support long branches of tree.

       8-    What is the difference between Fruit and vegetable?
      Ans- Botanically, if something does not have seeds, it is a vegetable. This includes roots, stems and leaves. If it does have seeds, it is considered a fruit, which would include tomatoes, pumpkins, bell peppers and beans.
