Ans- Yes, rotis are made in my home. They are made from wheat flour.

Q.2 In your house, what is done to protect grains and pulses from insects?
Ans- In my house, grains and pulses are stores with neem leaves in air-tight containers.

Q.3 What is a canal? How does it help in farming?
Ans- A canal brings water from far away- where a dam had been built on a big river. It helps farmers to irrigate fields.

Q.4 Why was Hasmukh forced to by expensive fertilizers?
Ans- Without cows and buffaloes, there was no cow dung to be used in the fields as fertilizer. Therefore, Hasmukh was forced to buy expensive fertilizers.
Q.4 What affects the soil badly?
Ans- Growing the same crop over and over, and using so many chemicals affects the soil badly.

Q.5 How does croton plants help in farming?
Ans- Croton plant’s leaves bend and become limp, when the soil becomes dry. This signal tells farmer which part of his farm needs to be watered.

Q.6 What is compost? How is it prepared?
Ans- Compost is a natural fertilizer. It is prepared by putting garden waste (dries leaves), kitchen waste (peels of vegetables and fruits, and leftover food) and earthworms in a pit.

Q.7 What is technology?
Ans- A process or method is called technology. For example, making dough from dry atta (flour) is a technology, a special process.

Give Reason. Why?
Q.1 Bajra and jowar were forgotten and dismissed.
Ans- Bajra and jowar were forgotten and dismissed because people found that only one or two crops like wheat and cotton, got better prices in the market. So most farmers began to grow only these.

Q.2 Taste of food is different from past.
Ans- The taste of food is different from past because the seeds have changed.

Q.3 Cotton prices are not as high as before.
Ans- Everyone was growing cotton, so the cotton prices were not as high as before.

Q.4 Damjibhai’s son Hasmukh chose to become a farmer like his father. Hasmukh’s son Paresh is not a farmer, but a truck driver. Why would he have done so?
Ans- Paresh chose to become a truck driver instead of being a farmer because of these probable reasons.
1- Paresh was educated.
2- It was difficult to earn living by farming alone.
3- Bank loans had to be repaid.

Q.5 Earthworms are called “Soil’s best friends”.
Ans- Earthworms are called soil’s best friends because of following reasons:
1- Earthworms keep digging underneath to make tunnels. This way air and water can easily get into the soil.
2- They eat the dead leaves and plants, and their droppings fertilise the soil.
